During your wedding day, you will want to ensure that your dress stays in top condition. Unfortunately, a combination of makeup, drinks and mud can all conspire to stain your clothing. Thankfully, there are some steps you can take which will help you to deal with these stains.

When you notice that your wedding dress has a stain on it, it can be very tempting to immediately start rubbing the stain in an attempt to remove it. However, doing so will more often than not make the stain worse. You should first examine the type of stain as this will dictate the best approach for dealing with it.

Dealing with Different Types of Stain

Red Wine

During a wedding, there is often a lot of red wine being poured and drunk. If you get red wine on your wedding dress, you should apply a soft napkin to the area to absorb as much liquid from the surface of the dress as you can. Once you have done this, you should use a fresh napkin which has been soaked in hot water to dab the stain. Finally, apply a layer of baby powder to the stain. The powder will help to draw out any remaining liquid. You should then take the garment for professional wedding dress cleaning after all is said and done.

Mud

If the bottom of your wedding dress has picked up pieces of mud while you have been walking outside from one venue to another or taking photos, you should not rub the area as this will make the problem worse. Instead, you should allow the mud to dry before brushing the area to remove the solid pieces of dirt.

Greasy Food

If you are enjoying your wedding meal and you notice that a piece of greasy food has fallen onto your lap, it is crucial that you take action immediately. Remove the piece of food and cover the affected area in baby powder. As with the red wine, the baby powder will help to draw the grease from the fibres of the dress. After a while, you can brush away the powder and dab the area using a clean cloth which has been dipped in white wine.
